Two Kia SUVs shine in meeting the heightened 2024 IIHS standards, with the 2024 Telluride clinching the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) designation for the second consecutive year, while the 2024 Sportage earns the TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) rating. The IIHS lauds both vehicles for providing superior protection for occupants and vulnerable road users.
In response to the IIHS's increased requirements in 2023, the criteria were further bolstered in 2024 to enhance safety for back-seat passengers and refine pedestrian crash avoidance systems. Under the revised conditions, vehicles must achieve a "good" rating in the side protection test and an "acceptable" or "good" rating in an updated version of the pedestrian front crash prevention assessment. Notably, nighttime performance has become crucial for either accolade, as the evaluation now includes tests conducted in both daylight and darkness. Furthermore, the IIHS expanded its moderate front overlap test to include a second dummy behind the driver's seat, requiring vehicles to attain an "acceptable" or "good" rating for the TSP+ designation. The original moderate overlap test still necessitates a "good" rating for the TSP designation.
Steve Center, COO and EVP of Kia America, underscores Kia's unwavering dedication to road safety and its alignment with the IIHS's mission to elevate safety standards. He emphasizes the brand's continuous pursuit of advancements in safety, exemplified by the 2024 Telluride's remarkable performance.
The 2024 Telluride stands out with its striking design, spacious three-row cabin accommodating up to eight passengers, and an array of available technology features such as dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens, Digital Key 2 Touch, and Kia's latest advanced driver assistance systems, including Highway Driving Assist 2.0.
Meanwhile, the 2024 Sportage offers a versatile lineup, including the Sportage HEV and Sportage PHEV models, catering to diverse preferences and needs.
