Kia had an exceptional year in 2021, despite all of the challenges that we know in the automotive industry. Kia reported a total of 79,198 units sold in Canada in 2021, marking the best year ever for the Korean manufacturer. Kia also took home multiple awards from recognized publications and organizations.
The success of the Kia lineup can be found across the board. The 2021 Kia Seltos was the most popular Kia model last year with a total of 14,436 units sold. In second place came the Kia Forte with 13,190 units sold, followed by the Kia Sportage compact SUV which had with 11,837 sales last year.
Kia electric vehicles also did very well. The Kia Soul EV saw a percentage increase in sales of 24% over 2020, and the Kia Niro EV and PHEV saw increases of 152% and 21% in sales respectively. There was a total of 4,720 Kia EV and PHEV vehicles sold in Canada last year.
Moreover, Kia won multiple awards that highlight the quality of the brand’s vehicles including the J.D. Power best mass-market brand and its 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study. Kia also took home three AutoTrader.ca awards and two AJAC category awards for the Kia K5 sedan and the Kia Telluride SUV.
“Our success in 2021 can be attributed to our industry leading design, safety and technology, as well as our dedicated dealer network, who remained agile in servicing our customers throughout another pandemic year,” says Elias El-Achhab, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Canada. “As we look forward to 2022, consumer demand remains exceptionally high, leaving us optimistic for the year ahead with new and exciting models like the highly anticipated Kia EV6, set to arrive in dealerships early next year.”
